Take a moment and then start.

March 10, 2025

Can you take a breath now that the legislature has adjourned? I encourage you all to take a moment for self-care after one of the most difficult sessions we have witnessed. That said, there is more for us to do.

Gov. Spencer Cox has until March 27 to sign or veto legislation and it looks like the draconian citizen initiative laws will make their way to the ballot in 2026. This means we will have to mount a statewide campaign to educate voters on what a new constitutional amendment means. I have faith that our leagues can do this. We depend on each of you to help us in this effort.

This month is still busy as we will hold our Legislative Wrap-up on March 13 (register here). And shortly thereafter we will hold a statewide Zoom meeting to come to consensus on the League’s Federal Judiciary Study. We will send out more resources to you soon so you will be ready to weigh in.

With barely a month to regroup, we will begin our Legislative Action Committee meetings in April. Watch for more information.

I will be sending out President’s Letters monthly now that the session has ended.

Our LWVUS president Dianna Wynn wants you to know that it’s clear we are facing a constitutional crisis. “In order to meet this moment, now is the time for us to lean into our collective power and be bold.”

LWVUS created guidance and resources, including graphics and customizable templates, for our Leagues to use to engage members of Congress while they’re in their home districts. View these tips, tricks, and more on the League Management Site.

Here is a roundup of all the federal-level activities for the week March 3-7:
