Being strategic and collaborative
February 24, 2025
We won’t sugar-coat it. There are real concerns for democracy coupled with a sense of fear for our future. I am thankful that every one of us is working hard to make a difference, and doing it in a strategic and collaborative way.
I hope you have seen that we’re working at the Legislature. We have been posting “Today on the Hill” videos on Facebook and Instagram detailing our priorities and asking for your help. Be sure to “like” the League of Women Voters of Utah (@lwvutah) on both social media sites.
We need every one of our members to reach out as individuals in whatever small way you can. Call, email, or text your representatives to tell them what you want. They are most responsive to constituents, but many will answer a query from any citizen. Certainly, the governor will.
I’m sure you have seen our study on the Utah Fits All Scholarship for which funding will be coming up soon. Our Bill Tracker keeps up on the progress of all priority bills. You can search for bills by name or number.
On the local front, please take time to check out our Truth Tracker and let us know what you think. We are testing this now and need to know if it is a useful tool.
Our national League is looking out for us. I hope you’ve read the letter they sent to Congress. It is on our website lwvutah.org. President Dianna Wynn says they are talking about next steps as we continue to point out the folly of an acquiescent Congress.
Here are a few opportunities in the coming week:
2025 Nonprofit Day on the Hill Wednesday, Feb. 26, 11 am - 2 pm
The League will be participating in a Nationwide Economic Blackout on Friday, Feb. 28.
All state Leagues are taking part in the Federal Judiciary Study. We’d like you to be part of the consensus. Read about the study and look at the resources. Check with your local league leadership for consensus meeting plans.
