In addition to being the Director of the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics, Kirk Jowers was the chairperson of the Governor’s Commission on Strengthening Utah’s Democracy in 2008-2009. During that process he concluded that Utah’s voter turn-out is discouraged by our caucus-and-convention system of selecting candidates. This is a great opportunity to talk to Kirk Jowers about Utah’s voting system and its impact on voter engagement. Prior to attending this event, you may want to read Mr. Jowers’ op-ed piece in the Salt Lake Tribune on June 22, 2010: http://sltrib.com/sltrib/opinion/49801142-82/utah-state-system-convention.html.csp |
