Questions

The League of Women Voters has made every effort to present accurately the candidates' responses as they were submitted.

  1. If elected, what two things do you hope to accomplish as a member of the House of Representatives for the people of Utah ?

    1. Increased energy independence.
    2. Reduction of prescription drug addiction.

  2. How would you address the following issues? (Please answer each question in 200 words or less.)
    - Adequate funding for education, including funding for disadvantaged populations such as non-English-speakers and prison inmates

Writing a check without a clearly defined plan accomplishes very little. I look at many other states spending far more money that Utah and achieving very little. I will strongly support any program that I firmly believe will succeed in improving the education of the intended students to the extent that the budget will allow.

    - Energy resource development and clean air

I have been and continue to be a strong proponent of nuclear power generation. I believe we need to tap our substantial domestic resources. Utah has an abundance of uranium, natural gas, shale oil, and low sulfur coal. All of these need to be part of an energy package. I will also support clean air technology and research into alternative fuels.

    - Water development and conservation

Water is a precious and limited resource. I will support keeping Utah's water for use in Utah. I will not stand for neighboring states taking our water.

    - Better communication between elected officials and their constituents

I have always tried to keep in close contact with my constituents. Email is my preferred method of communicating and I make it a point to always respond promptly and completely to any emails from constituents.
    Question3a: I would divide the 100M 4 ways.

  3. If the State had a revenue surplus of $100 million, how would you allocate the money? (Response should include $______________ for ________________________________.

    I would divide the 100M 4 ways.

    25M for teacher pay raise.
25M for law enforcement pay raise.
    25M for transportation
25M for either rainy day fund or tax cut.
