Questions

The League of Women Voters has made every effort to present accurately the candidates' responses as they were submitted.

  1. If elected, what two things do you hope to accomplish as a member of the House of Representatives for the people of Utah ?

I want to make sure that all children have access to a quality education.  I will also work to make legislators accountable to their constituents by enacting ethics reforms.

  2. How would you address the following issues? (Please answer each question in 200 words or less.)
    - Adequate funding for education, including funding for disadvantaged populations such as non-English-speakers and prison inmates

Class size reduction will be a top priority. Smaller class size will begin to address many issues faced in Utah classrooms. We need to work to attract and retain quality educators.  Moving Utah from 51st in the nation is another goal.

    - Energy resource development and clean air

Utah has abundant renewable energy resources such as solar and wind power.  We need to become a leader in promoting renewable energy development and we can't start soon enough.  Utah's natural resources must be protected and plans for development of oil drilling must be set to protect our state for future generations.

    - Water development and conservation

Conservation of water needs to be priority for all of Utah.  Not only do we have to work on personal conversation, but we need to ensure that Utah's aquifers are protected.

    - Better communication between elected officials and their constituents

If elected, I will actively communicated with my constiuents not just party delegates.  I will be and am available for contact through phone, letters, and email.

  3. If the State had a revenue surplus of $100 million, how would you allocate the money? (Response should include $______________ for ________________________________.

50 million, divide the rest to help with Human Services programs or other programs
for meaningful class-size reduction throughout the state, but not necessarily for additional capital expenses like buildings.  There are other solutions for reducing class-size.

Opponents:

  • Brian Monsen (R)
  • Dave Perry (C)
  • Raymond Corry
