Questions

The League of Women Voters has made every effort to present accurately the candidates' responses as they were submitted.

  1. If elected, what two things do you hope to accomplish as a member of the House of Representatives for the people of Utah ?

Prevent the adoption of vouchers as last passed by the legislature.

Help get the legislature out of the business of being a super school board

  2. How would you address the following issues? (Please answer each question in 200 words or less.)
    - Adequate funding for education, including funding for disadvantaged populations such as non-English-speakers and prison inmates

Instead of revising the income tax to give financial breaks to the wealthy, I would use the tax money to add to the WPU for school districts.  It is my understanding that prison inmates already have access to high school level training, and some vocational education.  I would like to see more done to help non-English-speakers learn the language

    - Energy resource development and clean air

Energy development should come with high tech anti-pollution capabilities.

    - Water development and conservation

We should all be conserving water where possible, but we should not be encouraging development where there is insufficient water.

    - Better communication between elected officials and their constituents

I appreciate the new e-mail technology that my state senator, Neiswender, uses.  I hope that I can learn how to do that.

  3. If the State had a revenue surplus of $100 million, how would you allocate the money? (Response should include $______________ for ________________________________.

I am too new to the system to know how much each area needs.

If the surplus is in the Income Tax area, I think the money should go to education WPU.  If in other areas, I know that we need to do more for health coverage for poor and needy people.  I would not reduce the current tax rate.

Opponents:

  • Todd E. Kiser (R)
  • Matthew M Woolley (C)
