Questions
The League of Women Voters has made every effort to present accurately the candidates' responses as they were submitted.
1. If elected, what two things do you hope to accomplish as a member of the House of Representative for the people of Utah?
I would make sure health care reform happens, specifically to make sure people in catastrophic situations would be adequately covered.
I would make mass transit more available to everyone on the Wasatch Front. Gas prices are too high and people have to commute too far to work to not explore alternatives.
2. How would you address the following issues? (Please answer each question in 200 words or less.)
-Adequate funding for education, including funding for disadvantaged populations such as non-English-speakers and prison inmates
Funding to the general fund needs to remain intact. Corporate tax breaks take money from schools.
Currently, teachers are given raises if they become certified to teach English as a second language and I would expand that program.
- Energy resource development and clean air
As stated above,
Utah
should look at all alternative forms of transportation to save resources. If we have fewer vehicles on the road, there will be less pollution.
- Water development and conservation
N/A
- Better communication between elected officials and their constituents
Being available and answering questions are not the only steps to a good relationship. A legislator MUST represent the interests of the district even if they conflict with their own personal interests. The people of district 14 did not want school vouchers and the incumbent chose to vote for it anyway.
3. If the State had a revenue surplus of $100 million, how would you allocate the money? (Response should include $______________ for ________________________________.
50 million - Health Care
50 million - Mass Transit
