Questions

The League of Women Voters has made every effort to present accurately the candidates' responses as they were submitted.

1. If elected, what two things do you hope to accomplish as a state representative for the people of Utah?

Provide the opportunity for every citizen to have adequate health care and insurance coverage at a reasonable cost, keep business taxes low in order to provide incentives to expand, create jobs and increase state revenue

2. How would you address the following issues?

  • Adequate funding for education, including funding for disadvantaged populations such as non-English-speakers and prison inmates
We need to provide choices for our students and parents, reimburse teachers for their performance and success not necessarily for longevity, provide adequate facilities.   We must look outside the box for solutions.   Provide English classes for non-english but require that they speak our language.

  • Energy resource development and clean air

I support using our natural resources in an environmentally friendly way.   Increase drilling, oil shale and tar sand production under strict guidelines.   Incentivise alternate fuel use through tax credits.   Incentivse conservation.

  • Water development and conservation

Water is critical to our area.   Prudent water development and conservation is the responsibility of every government entity in the state from cities to counties to water conservancy districts to the state itself.    The state needs to lead out and coordinate these efforts.

  • Better communication between elected officials and their constituents

Newsletters work very well in our community.   Web sites with interactive opportunities to ask questions and get answers.

3. If the State had a revenue surplus of $100 millions, how would you allocate the money?

$50 Million in Rainy Day Fund

$10 Million to Education, $10 Million to Health Care, $10 Million to Roads, $10 Million to create Jobs, $10 Million to build need structures

Opponents:

Ryan Bundy - Constitution

Kirk DeMille - Democrat
