The League continues to oppose 2SB 275 -Removing Signature from Initiative and Referendum Petition for two reasons:

1.  It unfairly changes the rules midway in the process. Five initiative petitions are currently being circulated.

2.  It increases an already unfair advantage for those who want to remove names and have an an extra month between the April 15 due date for initiative petitions and the May 15 deadline for names to be removed.  


We believe that unfairly changing the rules in midstream and making it easier for opponents to deprive all voters of the opportunity to vote on initiated legislation - as guaranteed by the Utah Constitution - will further discourage citizen involvement in government.
