• "No Coal Express" - The Utah Clean Air Alliance is planning to take a busload of people to Ely, Nevada, to protest a proposed 1500-megawatt coal-fired power plant. Per person cost will be approximately $45, with the bus leaving at 1 p.m. for the 6 p.m. meeting. The group will stay overnight in Wendover. If you are interested, please contact by JANUARY 2, 2008:

BACKGROUND – The EEC is a proposed 1500 megawatt coal-fired power plant near Ely that, if permitted, will likely grow to 2500 MWs. This would be in addition to the proposed White Pine Energy Station 1600 MW facility. Both projects are approximately 185 miles upwind from Salt Lake City. These plants are in addition to the Toquop project slated for Mesquite. The proponents of these projects have publicly stated that 1) the Utah environmental community has not raised any objections, and 2) Utahns don’t have a right to complain or be concerned since Utah gets a majority of its power from coal. The message will be LOUD and CLEAR that Utah is definitely opposed to the EEC and the other proposed plants. It’s only our air, our health, our national parks, and our planet that is at stake.
